“Music Speaks Louder Than Words"
The song “Music Speaks Louder Than Words” embodies both the spirit and the practices of Crank Music Publishing. Crank Music Publishing gains inspiration from its simple message:
“Sometimes the love you feel inside gets lost between your heart and your mind
and the words aren’t really saying the things you wanted them to –
But then you hear in someone’s song what you were trying to say all along –
And somehow with the magic of music the message comes through.”
Since 1978, when it was originally written by Harold Payne, Mike Scarpiello and Edgar Pease, it has become known worldwide with recordings which include Peter Paul and Mary, Candi Staton (Suswell), Holly Robinson, Glen Yarbrough, The Limeliters, Mary O’Hara (Ireland), Vicki Leandros (Greece), Hiromi Go (Japan), Gravity, and Harold Payne (Affinity Records).
“Music Speaks Louder Than Words” has been chosen as the theme for the annual National Association of Songwriters (NAS) where it was performed on stage by Richard Marx, Michael Bolton, David Pomeranz, Harold Payne, Mike Scarpiello, and other notable songwriters; and was included in the NAS program with full lyrics for the performance; it was selected as the finale number for the performance of Holiday On Ice/Ice Capades; and, most notably in the spirit of Perestroika/Glasnost, was chosen as the theme song and title of the International Songwriters Festival and performance in Moscow, Russia, which included among others Phoebe Snow, Cyndi Lauper, Atlantic Starr, Earth Wind and Fire, Mickey Thomas, Anne Murray, Emmanuel, Roberta Flack, Patti LaBelle, Albert Hammond and Harold Payne where the song title’s towering banner was cast across Red Square.
